AHL's Abbotsford Heat Coach Jim Playfair Loses His Mind

This Video was emailed to me from Boston shortly after the big gold medal Canada - USA hockey final on Sunday.  Johnny (my Canadian brother-in-law) and his hockey teammate Jerry (who is American) had a little bet going on over the outcome of the game. If the USA won, Johnny would have to drink beer out of Jerry's skate... and if Canada won, Jerry had to drink out of Johnny's skate.  Poor Jerry... I know what Johnny's hockey equipment smells like!

Just when downtown arena chatter seems to be dying down... Daryl Katz takes to the internet!  No new information here... it looks like Katz is just trying to keep people yapping.  It is nice to see Katz talking - without talking through somebody. WATCH

There can be no doubt that Edmonton is hockey-crazy.  And with the Oilers bearing down on a playoff spot, that is amplified 3-fold!

Local business always profits when the Oilers succeed, of course.  But the very fact that we live in a hockey culture means that Edmonton’s retail sector possesses qualities rare in North America.

Proof?

Two more businesses coming to Edmonton.  We should be keeping count, there have been a lot of them, lately.

My cousin in Vancouver (Voice of the Canucks - John Shorthouse) dropped me a line to let me know Michael Buble was his 'Colour-Guy' at a recent Canucks game.  He knows that I'm a big Buble fan so he thought he'd let me know (to rub it in, no doubt).  "Oh yeah, well I know... Jerry Steen" was the best comeback I could produce.

Later today Michael Buble will be named as a minority owner of the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.  According to Vancouver media reports yesterday, Buble will get a minority stake in the junior club from Giants majority owner Ron Toigo.  NHL legend Gordie Howe and former Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks coach Pat Quinn also have minority stakes in the Giants. Howe and Quinn's ownership positions will not change.
